Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator who works with NBC News in Washington D.C., is a television anchor. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature at the University of Pennsylvania after growing as a child in New York City. Mitchell was employed as a reporter by KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976, she joined the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). In the following two years, she joined NBC News as a Washington reporter. She started covering the White House in 1981 and was named chief correspondent for the congressional office by 1988. She was appointed the chief White House correspondent by NBC News in 1992. Mitchell participated on the TV program Meet the Press and also host of the show. Mitchell joined the panel during 1988's presidential debates, that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received in 2005 her Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism for The John F. Kennedy School of Government. Also in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) was honoured Mitchell for her contribution in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began reporting on the White House in 1981-1988, both during Ronald Reagan's presidency. Her coverage included a variety of crucial stories such as the Iran-contra scandal, the tax and budget reforms in addition to the arms control. She traveled extensively along with President Reagan for summits together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
